- facilitate decisions by the Leadership Group on the highest priorities for policy development
- drive cross-departmental and cross-portfolio work on high priority policy issues
- keep the Leadership Group informed of progress on priorities
- strengthen strategic policy coherence within the portfolio
- play a role in the evaluation of the delivery of government policy objectives and improvement of implementation and service delivery
- promote new perspectives and new ways of working, and
- assist with ‘fire fighting’ where issues need to be resolved quickly.
