The Strategic Communication Branch provides a full range of professional public relations support to the Department.
Services include the development and implementation of communication strategies, products and events for the promotion of government polices and projects.
Included in this work is coordination of adherence to the recently introduced Government Guidelines on Campaign Advertising, which sets stringent principles and processes that apply to all Australian Government departments and agencies undertaking information and advertising campaigns.
The Branch is also responsible for liaising with the media, writing draft media releases and answering media enquiries made to the Department, as well as assisting the Ministerial offices with media events and enquiries as required. The Branch also provides media monitoring services to the Department.
The Branch is responsible for whole-of-government national security media coordination. The Branch manages the maintenance of the National Security Public Information Guidelines. These Guidelines provide a framework for the Australian Government and State and Territory agencies responsible for public information and media activities relating to national security issues and incidents.
A key role of the Branch is the management of the Department’s corporate style and branding, including electronic and paper-based publishing services. The Branch provides strategic communications advice, guidance and support to Ministers, the Department and relevant external stakeholders on corporate communications and publications (including online).
