International Development Assistance

The Attorney-General's Department provides technical legal assistance and capacity‑building assistance to Pacific and South East Asian countries through the International Assistance and Treaties Branch (IATB). The Department provides international development assistance through the:

The Anti-Money Laundering Assistance Team  provides bilateral and regional assistance to countries in the Pacific to develop systems to combat money laundering and terrorist financing.
The Pacific Section assists Pacific island countries with legal policy or legislative work on police and criminal justice issues and provides support for the PNG law and justice sector through the Strongim Gavman Program. The Pacific Section is also responsible for the Pacific Legal Knowledge Program and hosts the Pacific Islands Law Officers’ Network (PILON) Secretariat on an interim basis.
The Regional Legal Assistance Unit works with countries in the South East Asian region to develop and strengthen legal frameworks that contribute to the fight against terrorism and other transnational crime, including frameworks facilitating mutual legal assistance, extradition and transfer of sentenced persons.
