The National Drug Strategy 2010-2015 provides a framework for a coordinated, integrated approach to drug issues in the Australian community, which is agreed to by all Australian governments. The aim is to build safe and healthy communities by minimising the negative health, social, and economic effects from alcohol, tobacco and other drugs.
The Attorney-General's Department contributes to the development of national drug policy, primarily in reducing the supply of illicit drugs. The Department provides policy advice to the Australian Government on drug issues, providing coordinated Commonwealth law enforcement responses on current and emerging drug issues. The Department works closely with the Australian Federal Police, the Australian Customs and Border Protection Service and the Australian Crime Commission.
