Family Law Amendment (Shared Parental Responsibility) Bill 2006

The Family Law Amendment (Shared Parental Responsibility) Bill 2006 (Shared Parenting Bill) was passed by the Senate on 30 March 2006.  The Shared Parenting Bill is expected to go back to the House of Representatives in May 2006 and if passed will commence in July 2006.

The amendments will only apply to parenting orders made after the commencement of the Shared Parenting Bill.  The new provisions will not apply to people who already have parenting orders.  To change current parenting orders, the court must be satisfied that there has been a significant change in circumstances to warrant the orders being altered.
